Edward Moss – solicitor in our Personal Injury team – discusses Dog Bite Claims

Official statistics show that over the course of the last 10 years, hospital admissions following attacks by dogs have increased by 76%.  Man’s best friend is quickly becoming a nuisance! Many now question whether enough is being done to protect the public and to punish irresponsible owners.

If you have been a victim of an attack by a dog then it may be possible to bring a claim for compensation.  It is easier if the dog is known to be a danger, but if the dog is out of control and acting dangerously then a claim can be brought.  People have been bitten in public places, whilst at work, making deliveries to houses and even in friend’s homes.

What should you do if you are bitten by a dog?

1          Find out the identity of the owner and their address.

2          Report the attack to the Police.

3          If at work, make sure that you inform your manager and make a report.

4          Seek medical attention and take photographs of any scar, bruising or wounds.

5          Identify any witnesses to the attack and make sure that you have their name and address.

If you have been bitten by a dog then we are here to help.
