Peter Heginbotham OBE

Biography

We welcomed Peter to the firm… in 1968. He quickly moved up the ranks and became a partner in 1975. He held the role of Managing Partner from 1987 to 2011 and Senior Partner since 1994 retiring from the Partnership and taking up his role as Consultant in April 2011.

Key areas of expertise include… Peter advises on the structure of company sales or purchases and reorganisations, and is also skilled in the legal aspects of financial reporting and pension scheme issues. He has acted as a partnership receiver, running a business during a dispute between its owners, and has many years experience of professional compliance work, including as a former intervention agent for the Law Society. He has acted as an independent person in connection with disciplinary issues with senior employees when the company owners were unable to do so, both in chairing investigations and in facilitating disciplinary processes. He has worked for many years with public sector bodies on such things as corporate structure and funding contracts.

He has held the position of President of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce on two occasions, most recently in 2008/9. He currently chairs several companies including Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Limited (the PFI company operating the 25-year waste and recycling contract for Greater Manchester), Manchester Solutions and Skills Solutions. Peter was awarded an OBE for services to the business community in 2005, and was appointed Honorary Consul for Japan in Manchester in January 2008.

He fits in because… known for his commerciality and “real life” experience, he is frequently brought in to help out with “problem solving” complex tasks and issues, especially with the many owner-managed businesses who have been long-standing clients and with public sector bodies.

At the end of the day… Peter’s interests include reading and writing and watching Oldham Athletic.
